Welcome To Glencoe
The Village of Glencoe is a residential lakefront community with high levels of services provided by the local governing bodies. The Village was incorporated in 1869, and in 1914 became the first community in Illinois to adopt the council-manager form of government.

In 1921, the Village of Glencoe became one of the first communities in Illinois to adopt a zoning ordinance, and is still considered a model community in terms of land use and zoning control. Glencoe was also the first community in Illinois to cross-train officers in both police and fire fighting duties. The fully integrated Public Safety Department now performs all Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services and is available for all types of emergencies.

The Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe offers 385 acres of natural beauty and world-class gardens.

The Village of Glencoe has many historical and architecturally significant structures and is the home of the only known bridge to be designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The Glencoe Historic Preservation Commission, established in December, 1990, is responsible for public education about preservation; identification of landmark sites and structures; and advisory review of proposed alterations to landmarks and historic sites.
